About Me

Student. Filmmaker. Storyteller.

I have chosen to study Filmmaking/Film practice as from an early age I have always been interested in the art of storytelling. Film is one of the greatest ways to convey a narrative and connect with an audience. It was in primary school that I discovered a passion for writing stories, I would write anything from short comedies to longer more drama-focused pieces. Around a similar age I began to pursue acting, as the performing arts began to appeal to me. I attended the Helen O'Grady Academy and the First Act Drama School, both based in Warrington.

During my time in high school, I studied BTEC Performing Arts. My tutor being one of my biggest influences during this time, Mrs Randle, would always encourage to me to follow my dreams and improved my confidence. After a couple of years of studying acting, I realized that my true passion was behind the camera. The older I got the more films I watched, which good or bad, would all inspire me. This realization that my true path was filmmaking gave me the ability to combine both storytelling with performance.

Directing and editing my own short films has been one of the highlights of my life. I have a wide knowledge of film and some of my favourite film makers are David Fincher, Nicholas Winding Refn, Wong Kar Wai and Denis Villeneuve. All amazing auteurs and storytellers, with their own unique styles, which I am hoping to be able to produce for myself one day.

My personal favourite films are Social Network, Chungking Express, Blade Runner 2049, Snatch and Dazed & Confused which have all individually inspired and motivated me. I am excited to begin my study at university and acquire my degree so that I can follow my chosen career path and eventually reach my personal goals. To be involved in the creation of a film in almost any aspect would be a dream. I enjoy all facets of the process, from screenwriting to editing, but my main goal would be to combine all these features into my own movie and retell the stories that I have been imagining in my mind for years.

I am currently studying Film Studies, Media Studies, and English Language at Priestley College. Exploring the English Language has helped me to enhance my storytelling capabilities through creative writing modules. I enjoy every aspect of Film Studies, not only watching but dissecting brilliant films and discovering hidden meanings and then researching the impact they have had has been an amazing experience. But, without a doubt my favourite feature is the coursework. Our final assignment is to create a short film which encompasses the entire process from generating ideas to the finer details & mechanics such as, shot lists, camera techniques and finally getting to edit the footage. Media has given me a wide skillset and more of an idea about the other forms of communicative platforms. Our coursework for this semester is to create and edit my own music video, something which I am looking forward to.

I also have a lot of experience with software and digital media. Self-taught, I enjoy using and editing with Adobe Premiere Pro. I have utilized Premiere both in and outside of school. I also spend time either watching films or reading. I love to learn about new and upcoming films and watching the behind-the-scenes footage. Being able to witness the love and care that goes into some of my favourite films, is what I enjoy the most.

I have also had some experience in the world of work, when I had a part-time role as a Crew member with McDonalds, this gave me the opportunity to meet new people and work cohesively with others with some responsibility.

I enjoy being around people and new environments and I am

extremely excited to start university and the next part of both my life and future career. I hope to be a true asset to your university and that my passion for film is clear.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application.
